Working
in the field of River & wetland ecology Dr Anish
Dua has successfully generated baseline data about the
rich biodiversity resource of Harike & Kanjili wetlands-
the two ecosystems of International importance.
The water quality of these wetlands is regularly being
monitored to assess its impact on aquatic fauna.
The status
of threatened fish spp in these wetlands is established
and the studies were undertaken to start the fish habitat
restoration programme. The fish community health in
Harike wetland is established through the population
dynamics studies.
Successful
studies have been carried out on regional cooperation
through environmental exercises where trans-boundary
water channels (between India & Pakistan) are being
monitored. The objective is to showcase the idea of
addressing pollution problems through strategic partnerships.
A total
of 8 research projects were carried out with Ministry
of Environment & forests Govt of India; University
Grants Commission, New Delhi; Bombay Natural History
Society; Salim Ali Center for Ornithology & Natural
History, Coimbtore; Punjab State Council for Science
& Technology, Chandigarh; Sandia National Laboratories
USA, WWF-India and UNDP, India. Dr Dua has active collaboration
with International organizations like Wetlands International
South Asia, WISA; WWF-Pakistan, UNDP-Pakistan and International
center for Integrated Mountain Development, ICIMOD,
Kathmandu.
Dr Dua
established the Aquatic biology laboratory in the Department
of Zoology. Already 2 students have completed their
Ph D and 18 students have done their M Sc Projects under
his supervision. Along with the assigned course Dr Dua
teaches Special theory papers titled, “Wetland Ecology”,
“Fish Biology”, & “Fisheries in India” to the M
Sc students. He is popularizing the field of Wetland
Ecology and Environmental Management to the students
of affiliated colleges of this University by conducting
Extension Lectures, Nature Camps and Field trips. |
