School of Social Sciences was established in the year 2003 to cater to the needs of outstanding students who after 10+2 plan to excel in Social Sciences so as to prepare them for competitive examinations, corporate sector and higher teaching and research. The programme offers at the undergraduate level i.e. B.S.Sc. (Honours School ) Social Sciences ( a six semester course after 10+2 level)
In recognition of the excellent performance of the Bachelor in Social Sciences (Honours School) Course being run by the School of Social Sciences, the University Grants Commission has provided a grant of Rs. 26.5 lakh for starting Master in Social Sciences (Honours School) under its Innovative and interdisciplinary Emerging Areas Programme. The M.S.Sc. (Honours School) offered by the School of Social Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar is a dynamic and innovative course, aimed at equipping the students with sound theoretical knowledge about the Political Economy in its national as well as international settings and by giving practical experience to the students to develop the skills and insight into the fast growing emerging areas of National and International Affairs. |

Special Features
B.S.Sc. (Hons. Sch.): The course provides an holistic and interdisciplinary training for a career in dynamic personality for pursuing a career in the corporate sector. The students shall have elaborate exposure and training in communication skills-written as well as oral-through elaborate discussion session, term paper writing and presentation and Project Report writing. Besides courses in computers, the students shall be exposed to academic challenges, which aim at tapping their potential to the fullest.
M.S.Sc. (Hons. Sch.): Keeping in mind the changing economic and political environment of India and its growing integration with the global economy, this new programme concentrates on multidimensional thrust areas like International Politics and Economics, Corporate Sociology, Human Resource Development, Research Methodology, Planning and Environmental Studies.
The Programme is specially designed to train the students for a challenging career in Corporate Sector, IGOs and Non-Governmental Organizations-national as well as international institutions such as World Bank, IMF, U.N. and its Agencies, International Trading Blocs; and Institutes of Higher Teaching and Research.

The School has modern equipments like Multimedia Overhead Projector, Overhead Projector to supplement the teaching methods. All faculty members have Internet ready computers in their rooms so that they can keep themselves abreast of latest heppenings around the world. The School has the latest Xeores Machine that not only helps in official purposes rather it is very useful in producing and supplying study material for the students’ use. The School has Computers Lab furnished with Goderej Compartments and making it most modern computer lab fully equipped and networked so as to enable students making maximum use of such facilities in the School for sake of writing their Term Papers and Project Reports etc.

- Ritika Pahwa of the School got selected for prestigious Institute of Management Technology, Gaziabad through CAT (IIM).
- Mr. Shobit Arora has been selected for “Management Guru” Arindham Chaudhary’s famous International Institute for Management and Planning, Gurgaon, New Delhi.
- Mr. Gaganpreet Singh was bracketed for 2nd position for admission in M.A. History Course in the Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
