Infrastructure of the Department
  1. The whole faculty has been provided with the Network  in the department.

  2. Research facilities in the form of separate department library having well-equipped library with more than 7000 books and journals of immense worth .

  3. The department specializes in (i) Indian Political System (ii) State Politics with special reference to Punjab  (iii) International Politics with special emphasis upon South Asia, South West Asia and the problems of Third World. The Punjab Journal of Politics , a biannual research journal of the Department is being published regularly since 1977. It carries papers mainly from three areas as given above. The department a programme of teaching and research guidance leading to the degrees of M.A., M.Phill. and Ph.D.

Professor and Head and Coordinator, UGC Special Assistance Program (SAP). He is also the editor of Punjab Journal of Politics.

Area of Specialization
International Politics with Focus on post- Soviet Central Asia
Area of Interest
Ph. D. on ‘Politics of Soviet Aid to India’ he haswritten on political economy of Soviet and post Soviet space. His areas of interest include Central Asia, globalization, India‘s foreign policy and climate change.

One book and 42 articles to his credit. Among others his articles have been published by Allied and Oxford and have appeared in OIDA Journal of Sustainable Development, India Quarterly, Contemporary Central Asia, Man and Development, World Focus and Punjab Journal of Politics.

Dr. Jagrup S. Sekhon

Professor .He has remained the editor of Punjab Journal of Politics and Chairman of the Department (2003-06). He has been Director All India Services Pre-Examination Training Centre of the University (2010-2012) and is presently holding the responsibility of Director Capacity Enhancement Programme .He is Deputy Coordinator of UGC sponsored SAP in the department and State Coordinator of lokniti: CSDS Programme for Comparative Democracy.
Area of Specialization State Politics with Special Focus on Punjab
Area of Interest

His research interests include state politics, contemporary social and political movements in Punjab focusing on peasants and border area. He is involved in the election related studies in Punjab since 2007

He has written more than forty articles in journals like Economic and Political Weekly, Man and Development, Mainstream, Punjab Journal of Politics, Social Science Research Journal among others and completed three major projects. He has been a co- author of book Terrorism in Punjab: understanding Grass-roots Reality
